Who We Are:

The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is the governmental agency charged with the responsibility of providing an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system for the County of Essex and the City of Windsor. The mission of the EWSWA is to provide programs to manage the solid, non-hazardous waste generated in the County of Essex and the City of Windsor in an environmentally sound manner through processes which include, but are not necessarily limited to reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, and landfilling.

Day In The Life:

  • Direct traffic to the appropriate dumping area
  • Perform maintenance duties as required for the site, equipment, etc. (e.g. painting, grass and weed cutting, and tree trimming)
  • Performing litter control at the yard waste pad and site as required
  • Collect payments from customers for various sales transactions (e.g. compost, yard waste material)
  • Deliver/pick up materials and EWSWA merchandise to support programming as required
  • Assist Waste Diversion Supervisor, Manager, and staff with other waste diversion projects (e.g. special events, audits) as needed
  • Be instrumental in supporting the launch of the first Green Bin (food and organic waste) program for the Essex-Windsor region as required

What We Are Looking For:

  • The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and be eager to gain valuable experience with a reputable public sector employer while contributing to the launch of a new regional Waste Diversion program.
  • Able to perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Mechanical skills and experience with routine maintenance is considered an asset
  • Experience operating a forklift or front-end loader is considered an asset
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license
  • Must provide a Ministry of Transportation Driver Abstract (Uncertified)
  • Must be returning to full-time studies in September 2025
