Articling students are engaged in a wide range of activities such as researching complex legal issues, drafting contracts, by-laws, policies, pleadings and legal opinions, assisting with real estate transactions and expropriations, as well as preparing for and attending court and tribunal matters with County or external lawyers.

This is a unique opportunity to launch your legal career in a collaborative, dynamic and purpose-driven environment, while gaining hands-on experience with legal issues shaping the County’s strategic direction and affecting your community. Articling Students will also find competitive salary and benefits, free parking, paid vacation and sick days, formal and informal feedback, and mentorship opportunities.

What You Bring:
Articling students are required to have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited Canadian law school before the start of their employment, and will be expected to have strong legal research, writing and communication skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, the ability to work professionally in independent and team settings, and familiarity with legal research platforms, Clio and Microsoft Office.

The Application:
Your application should be directed to Claire Bebbington, Deputy County Solicitor, and it should include a cover letter, resume, unofficial law school transcripts, and a list of upper-year courses. Letters of reference are optional. Please submit your application online at the Career Opportunities section of our website at www.countyofessex.ca by May 13, 2026, at 5:00 PM. If selected, you will be contacted by our HR team to participate in our hiring process.
